Gamcha began in a small village in Nepal, where Ane Hansen and her father became fascinated by the traditional handicrafts created by local crafters in their small workshops. After their family’s ecological guesthouse was affected by the big earthquake, they wanted to share the beautiful work of Nepalese artisans with Europe while supporting the crafters behind it.
Shanti and Nirjala, two women who started a felt production in 2004, collaborated with Gamcha to design products suited to the European market. The idea was embraced by Europeans, and today more than 125 women work to create Gamcha designs with fair treatment and payment.
